Why Chinese?

  • It is spoken by over 1.2 billion of people around the world.
  • It is one of the fastest growing language in the world.
  • It has one of the world’s oldest and richest continuous cultures, which is over 5000 years old.
  • It helps to understand its culture and history.
  • It brings more job opportunities since China has become the mainstream of the business market in the world.
  • It helps when travelling to Asian countries.
  • It is fun and good exercise for the brain since the written words are actually iconographic characters rather than letters.

Apart from assisting the students in developing their language skills, our program aims at:

  • creating a student-centered learning environment,
  • helping students gain cultural awareness,
  • preparing students to be able to apply the language under different circumstances,
  • focusing on listening, speaking, reading, and writing for students to achieve the language skill in all area.

General Information

With the completion of the six-semester elective Chinese language courses, learners will have an intermediate level HSK3, which is equivalent to B1 of CECR. CIN 101 is for the beginners. Therefore, students who register for the first time of the program are required to enroll in CIN 101. Registrations are made through the Registrar’s Office.
